one afternoon (Octain)

one afternoon
a day she ponders life’s array
a beam of thought across her face
she knows her minds a whirling race

a firing blast of neurons spray
a spark in flow with thoughts that blow
her images and words at play

a dance of thought, a minds embrace
a day she ponders life’s array.

Octain is a form conceived by Luke Rapture Elk. The rules are as follows: 8 lines -two tercets and a couplet, 8 syllables per line with the first line repeated (as much as possible) as the last. Meter is iambic or trochaic tetrameter and a rhyming scheme of   A-b-b; a-c/c-a; b-A

Union

Our Unions are under attack
some Midwest wings of Right assail
Ms Johnson’s teaching job is frail

they want to vote on cuts to smack
the Left all hide, the time to bide
no vote until they all come back

people this poem’s not a tale
Our Unions are under attack.

A Silk Scarf

A scarf of ocher silk adrift a breeze
in mists of sea and sands of rising rays
a scent it lingers far from over seas
exotic flowers, spice seed whirling haze.

The scarf appears before a lone man’s feet
he knows the scent of whom it may belong
a woman’s love he lost in harsh deceit
her beauty captured both his heart and song.

He scans the horizon with hope and hears
her unforgettable laugh by the bay.
Their distant eyes unite anew in tears
among the dancing flames and petals day.

He swiftly moves her way in tender bliss
presents the scarf and then his loving kiss.

The vanishing ~ Duel Poetry

The vanishing

kneeling
in the sands
he waits
for
a drop of time
but found only
the dry bones
of yesterday
no future
no present
only
minute by
finished minute
of past moments
the bones
begin to cry
dry tears
empty of life
and true feelings
another masquerade
for god to see
or was it god
that took tomorrow
noticing people
don’t seem to care
about the future

This is the seventh poem Charlie/slpmartin and I have wrote together with Duel Poetry.  :)

Duel Poetry a prearranged poetry writing challenge  between two people to evolve a new poem where each writer must respond to the other writer’s lines  (4 -5 ) until both parties agree that the poem is complete.

“may we pray for you” ~ Duel Poetry

“may we pray for you”

a life
a mere
drop in the bucket
of time
but to me
she was life
my life
swallowed whole
by the industry
she bled for
now she floats
barren in the universe
a token
of corporate greed
“may we pray for you”

a life
a mere moment in time
he joined for life
the gang to live
now she
is the price
of membership
a one-way ticket
but could he?
he has to
or he dies
his mama dies
Why?
“may we pray for you”

Lost Adrift

This is my first Shakespearean sonnet. I have learned why so many fear them. They are difficult and a challenge to write. There are many styles of sonnets and I chose the Shakespearean to begin my endeavors with this form. rules: 14 lines, 10 syllables each, iambic meter, and a rhyming scheme off abab, cdcd, efef, gg.

~Sunday Matinee

An afternoon at Tiffany’s
a three o’clock showing
a Sunday matinee

slid down low in her seat
buried in her baggy sweats

a tub of popcorn in her lap
a pad of paper lying near
along side a poets pen.

The movie begins
her reel spins

expressions play
classic tunes
of form and style
up dos and red lips

blends of matching words
thoughts in rhyming flow
sways of sparkling bling

united in moving strings
mirrors of dancing wings

hanging off the balcony
on the second floor.

The words of ones own breath
can they be measured
by you or me?

what is good poetry?

a love of words....

exploding words
coating white paper
ending the show
